Riding School
We are a family run Equestrian Centre where all ages and levels of experience are welcome. Widmer Equestrian Centre is a BHS approved centre and holds the highest award of 5 starts from the council. We run lots of activities for children during the school holidays ranging from own a pony days, gymkhana afternoons to birthday parties.
What to wear
If you already own some or all of your own kit we will still ask to see the standard / condition / history / fit and wear of you hat. We hire our hats out x4 at a cost of £1.50. If you are providing your own hat it must be up to the current standard and professionally fitted. Hats bought off the internet that have not been professionally fitted will not be excepted. You will need to wear welly boots or shoes with a small heel and a little bit of grip. No open toed shoes / trainers / heavy walking boots or boots with a zip on the inside. Glove are highly recommended. Trousers / tracksuit bottoms / leggings are suitable. Jeans can really rub on the seams.
No strappy tops/vests. Shoulders and upper arm must be covered
You may get a little warm whilst out riding so layers are recommended. Always dress according to the weather conditions. A full riding wardrobe can be purchased from Widmer feeds country store.
Body protectors are recommended for all lessons but are compulsory for all jumping lessons and hacks
What type of lesson to book
We recommend all riders book an assessment lesson to start with. If you have some riding experience already, great! Show us what you can do! If you haven’t ridden before- no problem! That’s what we are here for!
Some experienced riders will be keen to get out hacking straight away. We will still need you to have a assessment lesson first and show us your walk , trot and independent canter. Once we’ve seen your skills , we will grade you on the booking platform and appropriate groups and hacks will show as bookable. If you are not quite to a hacking level , don’t worry ! You can brush up on those skills in some 1:1 lessons or you might prefer to join a walk trot group. Group lessons require riders to be walking and trotting and steering independently.
Coming with a friend, partner or sibling? No problem, we would recommend booking a semi private lesson if you are both at roughly the same level. The initial assessment lesson can be booked as a semi private .
4, 5 and 6yo’s we recommend the tots to trots lessons. These are 20min lead rein lessons and they take place in the arena and around the farm when the weather permits
You can add hat hire to your booking. After 4 lessons we would expect beginner riders to be trotting and making good progress at steering. We recommend you have your own hat now. Pop over to Widmer Feeds Country Store and they can fit all your safety equipment that is up to current British standard. Internet purchased hats and body protectors that have not been professionally fitted and / or are not up to the current British standard will be turned away. We offer tuition everyday except Mondays . We teach our riders from 4 years old and have no upper age limit but please note our upper weight limit is 13 .
We require payment at the time of booking. Please make your self aware of the cancellation policy

Cancellation policy
We currently require 72 hours, this allows us time to rebook the sessions and our freelance instructors to manage their time .

Please be aware that we do not allow any filming or photography of any lessons. This includes adult lessons, children’s lessons, the staff and the horses of Widmer Equestrian Centre.
We are a working farm with heavy machinery traveling around the site. We have a secure waiting area that keeps you away from machinery and potentially loose animals.
